Dhaka, Bangladesh | The Global Journal | 13 February 2026
In Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliament election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has emerged victorious with an absolute majority, winning 209 seats. The Bangladesh Election Commission announced the official results for 297 constituencies on Friday, according to a report by Prothom Alo.
The results for Chittagong-2 and Chittagong-4 constituencies have been deferred and will be announced later. The result of another constituency had also been postponed earlier.
Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared this information today during his concluding remarks at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, outlining the status of declared and pending constituencies.
Of the 297 declared seats, the BNP and its allies won 212 seats. The 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secured 77 seats. Islami Andolan Bangladesh won 1 seat, and independent candidates claimed 7 seats.
According to party-wise analysis, the BNP won 209 seats independently. Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats, Jatiya Nagorik Party 6 seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis 2 seats, Khelafat Majlis 1 seat, Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP 1 seat, Gana Sanghati Andolon 1 seat, and Gana Adhikar Parishad 1 seat.
With these results, BNP is poised to form the next government with a clear parliamentary majority.
The Awami League, barred from political activity, did not participate in the election. This has led to a major shift in the country’s political landscape after nearly two decades.
Voter turnout was 60.26 percent, with 48,074,429 “yes” votes and 22,025,627 “no” votes, according to Prothom Alo.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared the turnout and voting figures today during a media briefing at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka. Prothom Alo noted that BNP’s strong performance reflects the electorate’s response following the exclusion of the Awami League and the contest between major political forces.
With the results now official for nearly all constituencies, BNP is set to assume government responsibilities in the upcoming parliament.
