US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch a bombing attack on Oman if Muscat obstructs discussions on ending the war with Iran and restoring navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Quoting Donald Trump on Monday, Fox News reported that Trump said, “If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them.” Trump’s remarks came as Oman and Iran continue discussions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, adding fresh tension to relations between Washington and Muscat.

Oman has long played an important mediating role between the United States and Iran. Omani officials have been discussing various arrangements for maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz with Iran for several weeks.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Tehran and Muscat were moving toward a joint declaration. At the same time, the United States has been pursuing separate diplomatic efforts with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and the broader conflict.

Trump’s Claim Over Control of the Strait of Hormuz

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is effectively under US control. However, commercial and energy shipments through the strategically important waterway remain severely restricted.

Following the outbreak of the West Asia war on February 28, Iran effectively halted navigation through the strait. Since then, Tehran has used its strategic control over the waterway as an important leverage point in confronting US pressure and protecting its military capabilities.

On Friday, Trump went further, saying that he could declare the Strait of Hormuz part of US territory. Iran rejected the claim, saying that the strategically important waterway “will remain Iranian.”

Before the war began, the Strait of Hormuz was regarded as an important waterway open to international maritime traffic. A significant share of the world’s energy supplies, along with large volumes of other commodities, passes through the narrow waterway. Iran holds a strategic geographic advantage in the strait, with the Iranian coastline along its northern side and Oman situated along the southern side.

Trump Calls on Iran to Surrender

Alongside his threat against Oman, Trump has also called on Iran to surrender. He urged Tehran to “put up the white flag.”

Trump made the remarks as political pressure over the war grows inside the United States. With the November midterm elections approaching, debate over the conflict is intensifying in American politics, while opposition Democrats are seeking to challenge Republican control of Congress.

Trump, however, said he was in no hurry to reach an agreement with Iran.

Claim of Back-Channel Communication with the IRGC

The US president has also claimed that his administration maintains direct secret, or “back-channel,” communications with officials of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Trump said, “They’re good poker players, but they’re dying.” His remarks further underscored Washington’s continued military and diplomatic pressure on Tehran.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts over the Strait of Hormuz are continuing. Oman is seeking to establish navigation arrangements through an understanding with Tehran, while Washington is increasing pressure to assert its influence over the strategically vital waterway and restore international maritime traffic.
