Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Returns to Tehran After Attending CIS and Caspian Sea Summits

Tehran, Iran | October 10, 2026 | The Global Journal

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has returned to Tehran after attending and delivering speeches at two major regional summits focused on strengthening regional cooperation, energy security and multilateral relations. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Pezeshkian departed the city of Turkmenbashi for Tehran on Friday evening after a two-day visit to Turkmenistan.

During his visit, Pezeshkian participated in the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the environmental summit of the heads of state of Caspian Sea littoral countries. The gatherings brought together regional leaders and representatives to discuss shared interests, mutual cooperation and political and economic challenges.

Bilateral Meetings with Regional Leaders

During the visit, Pezeshkian held meetings and discussions with the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. He also exchanged views with the Prime Minister of Armenia and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The discussions covered various regional and international issues. Strengthening political engagement among neighboring countries, expanding economic relations and enhancing cooperation to address shared challenges were among the key themes of the visit.

Emphasis on Multilateral Cooperation and Countering Unilateralism

In his speeches at the CIS summit and the Caspian Sea forum, Pezeshkian highlighted several challenges facing the region. He emphasized the importance of strengthening multilateral relations, countering unilateral policies and expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

His remarks also addressed political, economic, social and security-related issues. The discussions underscored the importance of dialogue and coordination among regional countries to address common challenges and maintain stability.

The Importance of Cooperation in the Caspian Region

Cooperation among Caspian Sea littoral states is important in areas such as energy, trade, environmental protection and regional security. Stronger engagement among these countries could create opportunities to improve economic ties and develop joint initiatives to address environmental challenges.

Meanwhile, the CIS Council of Heads of State provides an important platform for political dialogue and discussions on economic cooperation among participating countries.

Overall, Pezeshkian’s visit to Turkmenistan reflects Iran’s continued diplomatic engagement with regional partners, with an emphasis on multilateral cooperation and discussions concerning energy and security. However, based on the available information, it remains unclear whether the meetings resulted in any specific agreements or new decisions.
