Iran’s New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei ‘Could Die at Any Moment -Israeli Media Claims, Citing Critical Health Condition
Tehran | August 8, 2026 | The Global Journal
Fresh speculation has emerged over the health of Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Israeli media outlets claim that he is in extremely critical condition and that news of his death could emerge at any moment. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and Iranian authorities have not issued any confirmation regarding the latest reports.
In a report, Israeli media outlet Channel 14 claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition is “extremely critical” and that he is receiving treatment in hospital. The report cited sources inside Iran.
The report also referred to claims by IranWire, which cited sources close to the administration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to those sources, Mojtaba Khamenei has not met with any cabinet members since the February 28 attack.
One source claimed that his condition is so serious that he “could die at any moment” and that information about his health has been circulating among different levels of Iran’s senior leadership. Another source close to the Pezeshkian administration also claimed that his physical condition is poor.

Iran Has Previously Rejected Health Claims
Various reports questioning Mojtaba Khamenei’s health and ability to perform his duties have emerged previously. Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected such claims. According to Iranian officials, Mojtaba Khamenei’s injuries in the February attack were not serious and he continues to oversee the country’s affairs.
Recently, President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged that communication with the Supreme Leader is currently “very difficult.” At the same time, he said Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence remains “a great source of strength” for the Iranian government.
Pezeshkian also said he had held productive meetings with the Supreme Leader and described his reasoning as “very sound.”
Public Absence Fuels Speculation
Mojtaba Khamenei’s prolonged absence from public view has further fueled speculation about his health among regional and international observers. Various sources have previously claimed that he sustained serious injuries, while Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected such reports.
Western and Iranian opposition-linked sources have also made various claims about his physical condition. However, many of these claims have not been independently verified.
At present, no reliable and independently verified medical information regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s current health condition has been made publicly available. Therefore, the latest claims reported by Israeli media should be treated as claims and counterclaims rather than confirmed facts.
Any new official announcement regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health could have significant implications for Iran’s political leadership, regional security and the country’s future policymaking.
