Jordan Declares It Will Not Be a “Battleground” Amid US-Iran Tensions -Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi

Jordan has firmly stated that it will not serve as a “battleground” in any regional conflict or as a launchpad for military action against Iran. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi made the declaration during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on Monday.
According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry’s social media post on X, Safadi emphasized that Amman will not allow any party to violate Jordan’s airspace or threaten the security of its citizens, and added that the country will use all its capabilities to confront any attempts to breach its airspace.
Safadi reiterated Jordan’s rejection of violating the sovereignty of other states and underlined the importance of respecting international law.
The two diplomats also discussed developments regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Safadi stressed diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path to resolving the issue, and expressed Jordan’s support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation, reducing tensions, and achieving regional calm.
In response, Araghchi praised Jordan’s positions and its ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability in the region. Both ministers agreed to continue communication and consultation on regional developments and diplomatic initiatives aimed at ending tensions and promoting dialogue.
This exchange comes amid heightened US-Iran tensions. President Donald Trump confirmed that a large US military “armada” is en route to the region, warning Iran to negotiate over its nuclear program or face potential military consequences.
Recent days have also seen intense diplomatic activity, with several regional countries, including Türkiye, mediating to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Jordan’s clear stance signals its commitment to maintaining neutrality and preventing any regional conflict from spilling onto its territory, amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
