Russian President Vladimir Putin Expresses Deep Condolences to Nepal Over Devastating Floods and Landslides

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed deep condolences over the heavy loss of life caused by devastating floods and landslides in Nepal. In a message to Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Putin offered sympathy to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those affected and injured.
In the condolence message published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin expressed sorrow over the extensive loss of life and destruction caused by mudslides and floods in northeastern Nepal. He conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the relatives of the victims and expressed hope that those affected would recover quickly.
Disaster Near the China–Nepal Border
The severe flooding and landslides occurred in northern Nepal on Wednesday morning. Preliminary information indicated that a major snow and rock avalanche near the China–Nepal border, approximately 20 kilometres northeast of the Rasuwagadhi border crossing, triggered the disaster.
Powerful flows of water, mud and debris have severely disrupted communications in several areas, while difficult mountainous terrain is complicating search and rescue operations.
Death Toll and Missing Persons
According to the latest information cited by authorities, the floods and landslides have killed at least 330 people, while more than 1,300 people remain missing.
Foreign nationals and pilgrims are among those reported missing. Hundreds of people have also been displaced across various parts of the Himalayan region and urgently require assistance.
Major Challenges for Rescue Operations
The disaster has destroyed dozens of bridges and damaged nearly 40 kilometres of roads, disrupting the movement of rescue teams and the delivery of emergency supplies to affected communities.
Damage to communications infrastructure has also made it more difficult to locate missing people and determine the full scale of the destruction. Nepalese security forces, rescue personnel and local authorities continue to conduct search and rescue operations.
International Condolences
Several countries and international organizations have expressed condolences and offered support following the disaster.
Putin’s message represents another expression of international solidarity with Nepal as the country confronts a major humanitarian emergency.
The immediate priorities remain locating missing people, providing medical treatment to the injured and delivering emergency food, medical supplies and shelter to affected communities.
