The Islamic Republic of Iran Achieved Victory Both on the Battlefield and at the Negotiating Table — Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf
August 17, 2026 | Tehran, Iran | The Global Journal
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran achieved success on both the military and diplomatic fronts in its conflict with the United States and Israel. He described the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached between Iran and the United States in Islamabad as a significant diplomatic achievement for Tehran, strengthening Iran’s position on the diplomatic front.

Speaking at a ceremony with parliamentary journalists in Tehran on Saturday evening, Qalibaf praised the resistance of the Iranian people and the country’s Armed Forces. He said Iran not only managed to mount firm resistance against the United States and Israel but also thwarted the objectives and plans announced by its adversaries.
According to Qalibaf, Iran’s success in both the military and diplomatic arenas was the result of the “brave and sincere” resistance of the Iranian people. He said that from the beginning of the conflict, Iranians from different political, religious and ethnic backgrounds had stood united in defense of the country’s territorial integrity and national interests.
Tribute to Those Killed in the Conflict
The Parliament speaker also paid tribute to Iranian soldiers and civilians who were killed during the conflict. He said the Iranian nation would remain forever indebted to those who gave their lives for the country.
He also paid special tribute to the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Qalibaf said Khamenei had devoted his life to Iran, Islam and the Islamic Revolution.
Call for the Media to Highlight ‘Iran’s Victory’
Qalibaf also addressed the role of the Iranian media. He praised Iranian journalists for their objective coverage during the 12-Day War and the Ramadan War.
However, he said state media now face an even greater responsibility. According to Qalibaf, the media should properly document Iran’s “victory,” explain its significance to the public and contribute to strengthening a sense of national pride.
Qalibaf acknowledged that the scale and significance of Iran’s “great victory” had not yet been adequately communicated to the Iranian public.
Tehran Presents Islamabad MoU as a Diplomatic Achievement
Qalibaf’s remarks presented the Iran-US MoU in Islamabad as an important diplomatic outcome of the recent conflict. He linked Iran’s position in negotiations with Washington to the country’s military resistance, national unity and diplomatic capabilities.
According to Tehran’s position, the Islamabad MoU was not a unilateral concession but rather a diplomatic outcome achieved on the basis of Iran’s military and political position during the war. However, the full impact of the agreement will become clearer once further details regarding its terms and implementation are made public.
Qalibaf said history would ultimately judge Iran’s role and resistance in the conflict. He stressed the importance of properly documenting the experience so that future generations, the Iranian people and freedom-seekers around the world can understand the significance of the confrontation and its outcome.
