Iran Currently Enjoying the Closest and Strongest Friendship with Russia in History — Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi

Tehran, Iran | October 20, 2026 | The Global Journal

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran’s relationship with Russia is closer than at any other time in history. Highlighting the growing cooperation and friendly ties between the two countries, he stated that Iran and Russia have never worked together as closely as they do today.

In a post on his X account on Tuesday (October 20), Araghchi wrote, “Never in our history have Iran and Russia worked as closely as they do now.”

The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks at a time when Tehran and Moscow continue to strengthen their bilateral relations while maintaining diplomatic engagement on various regional and international issues.

Meeting with Lavrov in Tehran

Earlier on Monday (October 19), Araghchi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran. During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the current state of bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation in the future.

They also emphasized strengthening economic and trade relations and exchanged views on nuclear issues.

Discussions on Middle Eastern and International Developments

The two foreign ministers also discussed recent developments across the Middle East and other parts of the world. Their discussions included the situations in Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine, and Yemen.

From an analytical perspective, diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Moscow on these issues highlights the importance of coordinating their mutual interests, regional security concerns, and approaches to international developments.

Focus on Economic and Diplomatic Cooperation

Iran and Russia have expressed interest in expanding cooperation across trade, economic affairs, and diplomatic engagement. Araghchi’s latest remarks reflect Iran’s official position on the growing closeness of relations between the two countries.

However, how this closer relationship translates into practical cooperation in trade, economic partnerships, and regional and international affairs will depend on the countries’ subsequent actions and mutual initiatives.
