Trump Holds Phone Talks With Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Ease Rising Middle East Tensions
Washington, United States | November 6, 2026 | The Global Journal
Amid growing concerns over the possibility of renewed military escalation in the Middle East, the United States and regional countries are intensifying diplomatic efforts to ease the crisis. As part of these efforts, U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the regional situation and diplomatic solutions to the crisis with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty.
According to a statement released by the Qatari Emir’s Media Office on Friday, Trump and Sheikh Tamim discussed international efforts to resolve the ongoing Middle East crisis and various initiatives aimed at reducing tensions. Qatar’s mediation efforts toward reaching a “comprehensive agreement” to end the crisis and establish regional security and stability featured prominently in the conversation.
Qatar has been playing a mediating role in efforts to end the ongoing war between the United States and Iran. During the conflict, Qatar and other U.S.-allied Gulf Arab countries came under Iranian attacks. A renewed confrontation could therefore put their security, economies and energy infrastructure at further risk.

During the phone call, Emir Sheikh Tamim emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes. He also called for preventing further military escalation in the Middle East, ensuring freedom of international maritime navigation and safeguarding the security of energy supplies.
Iran and Egypt Intensify Diplomatic Contacts
Meanwhile, diplomatic communication between Iran and Egypt has continued over the evolving situation in the Middle East. On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki, Abdelatty stressed the need to prioritize diplomatic solutions. He also urged all relevant parties to demonstrate flexibility and a spirit of compromise to reach a political settlement. Preventing further escalation and the expansion of the conflict was another key issue raised during the discussion.
Earlier this week, Araghchi also held telephone discussions with Turkish officials and leaders of several Gulf countries. The conversations focused on regional security developments as well as ensuring the freedom and security of international maritime navigation.
Amid concerns over the possibility of renewed U.S. military action in the Middle East, the ongoing diplomatic efforts by Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and other regional countries carry particular significance. Preventing a wider outbreak of war and finding a political solution through negotiations remain among the main objectives of these initiatives.
