Kazakh President Tokayev Calls Putin the Most Acceptable Political Figure, Voices Support for His Leadership

BERLIN, Germany | September 30, 2026 | The Global Journal

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a strong and experienced political leader, expressing support for his leadership of Russia.

Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, Tokayev said Putin possesses the qualities needed to lead a major country with a complex history and its own understanding of strategic goals.

Tokayev said, “As a statesman and Russia’s leader, President Putin is the most acceptable political figure for Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, and, in my view, for Europe and the entire world, strange as that may sound to us.”

Tokayev Praises Putin’s Leadership

The Kazakh president said he knows Putin very well and believes the Russian leader has important qualities needed to lead a major country such as Russia.

Tokayev said, “I know him very well. He has the qualities most needed to lead a major country with a complex history and its own understanding of the strategic goals it faces.”

Tokayev’s remarks came in the context of the longstanding political, economic and strategic ties between Russia and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is an important state in Central Asia and maintains extensive relations with Russia through various bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

The comments made by Tokayev in Berlin reflected his personal assessment of Putin’s leadership and his view of the Russian president’s role in Central Asia, Europe and the wider international community.
