Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets U.S. President Donald Trump at Reception for World Leaders on UNGA Sidelines in New York

On the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at a reception hosted in New York for world leaders. According to information released by Pakistan’s Press Information Department (PID), the two leaders met during the reception hosted by President Trump.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that President Donald Trump gave him a warm and cordial welcome during his visit to the United States to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Photographs released from the meeting showed Trump and Shehbaz Sharif standing together, smiling and shaking hands. In one photograph, Trump was also seen giving a thumbs-up gesture while standing beside the Pakistani prime minister. No detailed information was released by the Pakistani PID or the White House regarding the substance of their interaction.

The general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly was held from September 22 to 26 and on September 28, 2026, at UN Headquarters in New York. World leaders and senior representatives gathered for the annual high-level debate.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the General Assembly on September 25. During the sidelines of the UNGA session, he also held bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders.

Earlier this year, Shehbaz Sharif also participated in a meeting of the Board of Peace chaired by President Donald Trump in Washington.
The two leaders have also met on previous occasions, including during the 2025 UN General Assembly and at a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in October 2025.
The latest meeting in New York took place during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, which brought together world leaders to discuss international peace, security, development and other global issues.
