IRGC Claims Iranian Ballistic Missile Strike on US Marine Base in Jordan in Response to US Attack, Says Large Number of US Troops Were Killed

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it carried out a heavy ballistic missile strike on a US Marine base in Jordan’s Aqaba region in retaliation for recent US attacks on Iran. The IRGC said the strike killed a large number of US troops and damaged key military infrastructure.
The IRGC Aerospace Force said the strike targeted Camp Tibtin, a US Marine base on the Jordanian coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. According to the IRGC, the missile attack was part of the second phase of its ongoing retaliatory operation.
The force claimed that a large number of US personnel were killed in the attack and that several key facilities and military helicopters were also destroyed.
Retaliation for Strike on Wedding Ceremony in Southern Iran
The IRGC said the retaliatory operation was launched in response to a US strike on a residential building in Sirik, Hormozgan Province, in southern Iran. Iranian authorities said a wedding ceremony was taking place inside the building at the time.
According to Iranian claims, the attack killed or wounded around 50 people, including a child. Iranian officials described the incident as an attack on civilians.
The IRGC also said the incident revived memories of what it described as the Minab school and Lamerd sports hall attacks.
Iran Warns of Further Retaliatory Operations
In its statement, the IRGC claimed that the US military was unable to confront Iranian forces directly and warned that Iran’s retaliatory operations would continue.
The latest escalation comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important energy shipping routes. Any further military escalation in the region could have broader implications for regional security, global energy supplies and international trade.
However, the IRGC’s claims regarding the number of US military casualties and the extent of damage at the Jordanian base have not been independently verified. US officials have previously disputed Iranian claims concerning casualties at US facilities in the region.
