IRGC Navy Claims Destruction of US Unmanned Vessel Near the Entrance- of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has claimed that it attacked and destroyed a U.S. unmanned surface vessel (USV) near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

In its 16th statement, the IRGC Navy said U.S. forces had deployed several unmanned vessels in the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, allegedly out of concern over directly confronting Iranian forces.

According to the statement, the Iranian forces identified and targeted a U.S. unmanned vessel bearing hull number 5838 at the strategic entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy claimed that the attack foiled the vessel’s alleged “aggressive mission.”

IRGC Claims Control Over the Strait of Hormuz

The IRGC Navy said the Strait of Hormuz remains under its “smart control” and intelligence surveillance. It also warned that any hostile or military presence in the strategic waterway would be targeted.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes. Its strategic importance stems from its role in transporting oil and gas from the Persian Gulf to international markets. Any escalation of military tensions in the waterway could therefore affect regional security as well as global energy supplies and markets.

However, the IRGC’s claim that the U.S. unmanned vessel was destroyed has not been independently verified.
