IRGC Navy has claimed that it attacked two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf in response of US attack

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has claimed that it attacked two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf in response to a U.S. attack on five Iranian oil tankers. It also claimed to have targeted 10 additional vessels attempting to pass through a prohibited and unsafe area of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the IRGC Navy said the operation was carried out in response to what it described as “aggression and provocative actions” by the U.S. forces against five Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.

IRGC Claims Attacks on 2 US Vessels and 8 Tankers

According to the IRGC Navy, two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers were targeted during the retaliatory operation in the Persian Gulf. The Iranian force claimed that the targeted vessels sustained “heavy damage.”

However, the statement did not provide details about the type of attacks, the extent of the damage, or the identities of the vessels involved. There was also no immediate independent confirmation of the claims from the U.S. side.

10 More Vessels Targeted in the Strait of Hormuz

The IRGC Navy further stated that 10 vessels attempting to pass through a “prohibited and unsafe” area of the Strait of Hormuz were also targeted.

Iran claimed that the vessels were attempting to cross the area with the encouragement and support of the U.S. military and were therefore included in the operation.

Iran Maintains Surveillance Over the Strait of Hormuz

The IRGC Navy emphasized that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz remains under the “strict surveillance and management” of its forces.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transportation routes. Any escalation of military tensions around the waterway could potentially affect international energy supplies, oil shipments and global markets.
