SCO has become one of the independent and influential centres of the emerging multipolar world, says Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Over the 25 years since its establishment, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has evolved into one of the independent and influential centres of the emerging multipolar world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Speaking at the SCO Summit in Bishkek, Putin recalled that the organisation was established in 2001 on the initiative of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Over the past 25 years, he said, the organisation has strengthened and expanded, significantly increasing its importance in global geopolitics.

Putin said, “Established in 2001 on the initiative of six states, the organisation has grown stronger and expanded, becoming one of the independent and influential centres of the emerging multipolar world.”

According to the Russian president, the SCO’s expanding membership, broad geographical reach and cooperation across multiple sectors have increased its international significance. Coordination among member states in security, economics, trade, energy and regional cooperation has also contributed to its growing influence.

Putin further stated that the SCO has become one of the world’s largest regional organisations, extending its significance beyond the Eurasian continent.

The concept of a multipolar world also featured prominently in his remarks. Putin argued that the role of different states and regional centres of power is increasing in the global system and that the SCO has become an important part of this evolving international structure.

Comprising major global and regional powers, the SCO is increasingly serving as an important multilateral platform for international politics, security and economic cooperation.
