Tehran Assures Swift and Comprehensive Cooperation to Further Expand Iran-India Trade and Financial Relations

Tehran has assured comprehensive cooperation to swiftly resolve legal and judicial complications faced by businesses as Iran and India seek to further expand their bilateral trade and financial relations. Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said the Iranian Judiciary is prepared to expedite the settlement of legal matters involving traders and economic entities engaged in joint business activities between the two countries and to simplify the relevant procedures.
Mohseni-Ejei made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian and Indian businesspeople and economic actors in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting focused on the need to remove various legal, administrative and economic obstacles hindering the expansion of financial and commercial relations between the two countries.
Mohseni-Ejei said the Judiciary was ready to hear directly from traders about the legal and other barriers they face in their commercial activities. He added that the Judiciary would coordinate with relevant authorities to address such challenges within the framework of the law and applicable regulations.
During his visit to India to attend the BRICS summit, Iran’s Judiciary chief highlighted the long history of commercial exchanges between Iran and India. He said that despite the two countries’ longstanding trade relations, various economic and legal obstacles continue to pose challenges to fully realizing the potential of bilateral commerce.
He attributed part of the difficulties faced by Iranian and Indian traders to US economic sanctions and pressure against Iran. In his view, closer and more effective cooperation between the governments and business communities of the two countries is necessary to overcome these challenges.
Mohseni-Ejei said greater cooperation between the governments and business sectors of Iran and India could help remove many of the obstacles affecting bilateral trade and economic activities. Such cooperation, he added, could also strengthen confidence among businesses in both countries and create greater opportunities for expanding commercial ties.
He further pledged that the Iranian Judiciary would provide all possible assistance within the scope of its legal authority to Iranian and Indian traders and economic actors. In particular, efforts would be made to expedite judicial and legal proceedings and facilitate commercial activities between the two countries.
Iran’s initiative is being viewed as a potentially significant institutional step toward making the existing economic relationship between the two countries more effective and structured. Amid challenges arising from international sanctions and various economic restrictions, enhanced legal and judicial cooperation could play an important role in maintaining and expanding commercial ties between Iran and India.
