At least four people, including three children and a teacher, have been killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, in the northwestern United States. Another child and a teacher were seriously injured. Police said the suspected shooter, a 16-year-old boy, was also shot and killed at the scene.

The shooting took place around midday on Thursday, October 15, local time, at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend. According to reports from Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Associated Press (AP) and local media, the suspected shooter was a resident of the same city. Investigators are examining the motive behind the attack and whether the teenager had any prior connection to the school.

Three Children Killed Were Aged 5, 8 and 11

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the three children killed in the attack were aged 5, 8 and 11. A 54-year-old teacher was also among the victims.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect fired at a locked door and forced his way into the school. Investigators are continuing to examine the motive for the attack and how the teenager obtained the firearm.

Following the shooting, police activity increased significantly around the school. Students were evacuated to safety, and arrangements were made to reunite them with their families.

Local authorities reportedly cancelled classes and other activities in the Bend-La Pine school district for the following day. Federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, were also involved in assisting with the investigation.
