An election excluding the Awami League will be rejected by the people of Bangladesh – Party President Sheikh Hasina

Ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made an important statement regarding the political legitimacy and inclusiveness of Bangladesh’s upcoming national election. She warned that any election organized by excluding the Awami League—one of the country’s major political parties—cannot contribute positively to national unity or stability.
In a message published by the Associated Press (AP), Sheikh Hasina said:
“No government born out of exclusion can ever unite a divided nation.”
She stated that banning the Awami League from participating in the election is effectively depriving millions of its supporters of their voting rights. Describing this situation as contrary to democratic values, she urged international observers and democratic institutions to ensure that Bangladesh’s election and referendum processes are conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive manner.
The former prime minister further emphasized that the country’s political future depends on the participation of all political parties and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. She highlighted the importance of unity, stability, and continuity in the democratic process.
Speaking at a press club in New Delhi, Sheikh Hasina assured the people of Bangladesh and the international community that she remains steadfast in defending democracy, voting rights, and constitutional values. The speech was broadcast live online and was viewed by more than 100,000 supporters, which analysts say reflects her continued political influence and public support.
Political analysts believe that Sheikh Hasina’s stance could draw increased international attention to Bangladesh’s democratic process and help pave the way for a more acceptable and inclusive election in the future.
