Russian Airstrike on Warehouse in Ukraine’s Kyiv Region Kills at Least 27, Injures 42 — Governor Tymur Tkachenko

At least 27 people were killed and 42 others injured after a Russian drone strike on a warehouse in Ukraine’s Bucha district near Kyiv triggered massive explosions and a fire, Kyiv Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko said Saturday. He warned that the death toll could rise further.
The attack targeted a warehouse in the village of Myla on Friday night. According to Ukrainian officials, the drone strike was followed by a major explosion, while the resulting fire spread to nearby residential areas and a restaurant. At least 50 residential buildings were damaged, and more than 380 people were evacuated from the affected area.
Explosions and Fire After Warehouse Strike
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the warehouse in Myla was hit during the attack, triggering a powerful explosion. Ukraine’s Prosecutor’s Office said the Russian drone strike was followed by a major fire and multiple explosions.
The number of injured initially stood at six but later rose to 42. Local officials said children were among those injured.
Investigation Into Explosives Storage
The attack has raised questions over whether ammunition and explosive materials were being stored at the warehouse near residential areas.
President Zelensky said regulations prohibit the storage of ammunition near homes and called for an investigation into whether official negligence contributed to the scale of the disaster.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine whether the storage of explosive materials at the facility was lawful and whether the company involved had obtained the necessary permits and government approvals.
Residential Areas Also Damaged
The blast and resulting fire damaged nearby residential buildings. Zelensky also said a care facility for elderly people and people with disabilities was among the structures affected.
According to the Kyiv regional administration, more than 380 people were evacuated as rescue teams continued operations and authorities assessed the damage.
Long-Range Strikes Intensify
The attack came amid an intensification of long-range drone and missile strikes between Russia and Ukraine in recent months.
Warehouses, residential buildings, energy facilities and other infrastructure have increasingly been affected by the continuing attacks, placing additional pressure on civilians and critical infrastructure.
Ukrainian authorities are separately investigating the storage of explosive materials at the warehouse as rescue and recovery efforts continue.
