Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that any step in Syria that ensures peace and stability while protecting the country’s sovereignty and political unity is reasonable and acceptable.
Speaking to the nation after a Cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara, he stated, “The recent agreements open a new chapter for the Syrian people, and any attempt to disrupt this will be prevented.”
Erdogan further added, “We sincerely hope that our neighbor Syria can quickly establish domestic peace. If there is fire, conflict, or war beyond our borders, Türkiye cannot feel secure.” He also emphasized the importance of resolving the issue based on the principle of “one army, one state, one Syria,” and warned that those who treat conflict as a business or disregard human life will face strict action.
According to recent developments in Syria, on 30 January, the Syrian Interior Ministry forces entered the city of Hasakah, previously under YPG control. Under the agreement, public institutions will be integrated, and existing employees will be absorbed into the government payroll.
On 16 January, Syrian forces launched an operation against the YPG/SDF terrorist group in areas west of the Euphrates River, which later expanded east of the river. Most of the previously occupied territories have now come under government control.
