Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko Resigns as Zelenskyy Unveils Major Government Reshuffle
The Global Journal | Kyiv | July 13, 2026
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Sunday after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a sweeping government reshuffle aimed at strengthening Ukraine's wartime administration and diplomatic strategy.
President Zelenskyy confirmed that he had offered Svyrydenko a new and significant role, describing the move as part of a broader effort to realign the government's political and foreign policy priorities amid the ongoing war.
"We are changing our political strategy," Zelenskyy said, adding that each key area of Ukraine's foreign policy would be assigned to experienced officials capable of delivering results and advancing the country's national interests.
Svyrydenko, who previously served as Ukraine's Minister of Economy, became prime minister in July 2025 at the age of 39. She gained international recognition after playing a central role in negotiating a landmark minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States, a deal widely regarded as strengthening U.S. strategic interests in Ukraine's long-term security and economic recovery.
In a statement posted on social media, Svyrydenko said she was honored to have led the Ukrainian government during one of the most difficult periods in the country's modern history.

"I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and carry out every task aimed at strengthening Ukraine's position, defending our national interests, and bringing a just peace closer," she wrote, adding that she had discussed Ukraine's "next steps" with President Zelenskyy.
The former prime minister did not disclose details about her future position, while Zelenskyy indicated that she would oversee a new and important area of Ukraine's cooperation with a key international partner.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has remained under martial law, preventing national elections and allowing Zelenskyy to continue serving as president. Throughout the conflict, he has periodically reorganized his cabinet in an effort to improve government performance and respond to evolving wartime challenges.
The latest reshuffle is expected to reinforce Ukraine's diplomatic engagement with international allies, enhance coordination across government institutions, and strengthen Kyiv's ability to manage both the war effort and long-term reconstruction initiatives.
Further details regarding the composition of the new cabinet and Svyrydenko's next role are expected to be announced in the coming days.
