Seoul, South Korea | November 2, 2026 | The Global Journal

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Seoul for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening strategic partnership and expanding bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and South Korea. He began the visit on Monday (November 2) at the invitation of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.

According to a Reuters report, Erdogan and his wife, Emine Erdogan, were welcomed at Seoul Air Base in Seongnam, near the South Korean capital, by South Korean Trade Minister Park Jung-sung. Türkiye’s Ambassador to South Korea, Fatih Yildiz, and his wife, Nesrin Yildiz, were also present at the reception.

Erdogan Arrives with a High-Level Delegation

Erdogan is accompanied by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler, and Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir.

The delegation also includes Halit Yerebakan, deputy chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and head of its health policy division, as well as Haluk Görgün, Secretary of Defence Industries. The participation of senior officials from various sectors highlights the broad scope of cooperation being pursued by the two countries.

Official Meeting with President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday

On the second day of his visit, Tuesday (November 3), Erdogan is scheduled to hold an official meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. His state visit is scheduled to continue until November 4.

The talks are expected to cover various aspects of the strategic partnership between Türkiye and South Korea. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional and global developments, along with international issues of mutual interest.

Agreements Planned to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

During the visit, the two countries are expected to sign several agreements aimed at further strengthening the legal framework of their bilateral relations. These agreements could provide a more institutional foundation for existing cooperation and create opportunities to expand partnerships across various sectors.

Türkiye and South Korea have maintained longstanding friendly relations. Erdogan’s visit is seen as an important diplomatic initiative to advance political, economic, energy, defence and technological cooperation between the two countries.
